No Xbox

As the price on the Xbox was lowered today, I went out to get one after work.

Easier said than done.

I went to four stores, but either they didn’t sell Xboxes, or they were all out of Xboxes, or there was no one there to tell me if they were all out of Xboxes or not. It looks like the new and “special price for you” is without any bundled games, meaning that the box didn’t really get any cheaper, they just removed the bundled games.

Clever.

But I’ve decided that I want an Xbox no matter what, so I’ll just wait for the X3 chip to get ready, buy a large hard drive and download everything I need from the Internet. Unless I stumble across some really good games, of course - like Burnout 3 (I recommend having a look at some of the video clips at the site, amazing stuff) and Halo 2. Those I’ll buy.

The good guys over at SomaFM are experimenting with a new version of their excellent Groove Salad station. They have a test stream online using Orban Opticodec-PC aacPlus technology. It sounds really good, and the 48Kbps AAC stream is equivalent to the 128Kbps MP3 stream. Very cool.

You need Winamp 5.04 or later to get this baby to work. It’s a free download, so what are you waiting for? Please be aware of the nasty Winamp skin vulnerability that’s floating around on the internet.
