Binge
You have probably heard of those Asian guys who die of cardiac arrest after spending half a week in front of the computer screen at an internet café. Take South Korean Mr. Lee, for instance. On the 3rd of August 2005 he sat down and started playing StarCraft. After 50 hours of playing, only pausing to go to the toilet or take quick naps, the guy collapsed and died from exhaustion.
I’ve had some long sessions myself, but not anything close to 50 hours. I don’t think I’ve done anything over eight hours straight, which is also pretty far out.
Now I plan to break my own record and have a real gamer’s binge. “Binge” is probably not the right word for it, because it won’t feature any alcohol, just gaming, gaming and some more gaming. The game is World of Warcraft and the “event” is scheduled to start this Friday around eight in the evening CET and last 48 hours, until Sunday.
Breaks are planned for eating, going to the bathroom and sleeping, but preferable as little sleep as possible. Unlike Mr. Lee, I don’t plan to die in the process. Why am I doing this? No particular reason, really, I’m on support duty next weekend so I can’t participate in any social activities anyway and Gine is reading for her exams. Then it’s that I’m-a-nerd thing. I just can’t help it.
Roar has decided to join me, and if you too think that this sounds like a good idea - I’m not sure how anyone sane can think that this sounds like a good idea, but that’s not important - drop a comment. We’ll be playing on EU servers, start with new characters and see how far we make it. I’ll try to get the web cam going and hopefully update here at semi-regular intervals.
Feel free to spread the word to other WoW-players.

Playing WoW for fun? I only play it because levelling my character is the only thing I have these days, that comes close to being an accomplishment. Even though I most certainly match the criteria for this event, I will have to pass. Have fun killing 15 Enraged Wolves, 12 Undead Spirits and 30 Tortured Ghouls :)
The last time I played I killed rabbits for XP, so I welcome the Enraged Wolves with open arms. Let me know if you change your mind, it can be suprisingly refreshing to return back to basic at times.
These days it is only my lust for a flying mount that keeps me returning to Azeroth and Outland for more beatings. Yesterday, my party wiped seven times in a row, before disbanding in a fireball of heated words and exclamations like ‘ZomG!’ and ‘WtF n00bz".
But still.. I may change my mind. So thank you, Vegard :)
